Back in 2006 Microsoft stated a viral ad campaign for something called "Origami Project" that was featured at www.origamiproject.com/ (Link updated to web.archive.org mirror). It consisted of a campaign of 3 viral flash videos that were displayed in a three week time period.
In the third week they released what the ad was all about.... Ultra Mobile PC or UMPC for short. The the idea was a ultra portable tablet pc. The main issue was at the time the mobile hardware was not really that capable. Not many companys made them at launch.... what few that did exist basically look like the same design with some buttons moved. In the end the whole netbook line basically has killed off the UMPC market more or less.
